Wow! They have made all the moves on a very thirsty line that would make this team seem to be one that would be on their way to the playoffs. Especially after their performance last year. Maybe??? Except for one thing...... their quarterback. Which in the NFL, is the most essential piece to any championship team.
Does anyone in their fanbase really think that they will make it past the first round of the playoffs? (That is, if they make it there). For a franchise that has multiple championships, are you really content with Alex Smith? If you are, then you must be awfully optimistic.
Here is the bottom line. This team is either going to live or die by Alex Smith. Most think he will tank. Most hometown others disagree, and think that Singletary can succeed without. Truthfully most really think that this is the last year we will talk about Alex Smith... maybe even Mike Singletary as a coach, unless he admits he needs a quarterback.......Either way, this will be a very telling tale of the new San Francisco 49ers.
The truth is that these aren't the 86 Bears. Another truth is.... Alex Smith is not a proven winner. Both Singetary and Smith will be the most important parts to making this team what fans think can be a winner. Me on the other hand........predict a 7-9 record for the year.
Until they address quarterback (which Singletary knows nothing about), they will flail and be average.
